YottaDiscovery allows Yotta280 the ability to analyze the entire concentration of data on a company’s network. The YottaDiscovery service generates numerous reports that help identify possible storage inefficiencies, such as stale or redundant data. The results help both the business and your IT resource estimate the size of the data backup solution. Optimizing your company’s LAN or WAN, makes your data backup procedures more efficient and cost-effective.
YottaDiscovery can be used prior to implementing YottaVault to analyze an entire network and use the results to improve your data storage blueprint. There are two key elements the YottaDiscovery service:
Storage Discovery
The Storage Discovery service is used to analyze the entire concentration of data on the company network. The service generates reports that help identify possible storage inefficiencies, such as stale or redundant data. The results help both the customer and Yotta280 estimate the size of the data backup solution.
Using the YottaClient, a scan is conducted of data discovered on the network. Upon completion of the scan, a set of file summary reports are available to illustrate an overview of scanned files on the network. More details are available when the user drills-down. The display includes filters to allow analysis of specific group files. The File Summary can show, for a specified time period numbers and sizes of:
- All files
- Duplicate files
- Duplicate groups
- Changed and new files
- Unchanged files
- Unaccessed files
Using the Storage Discovery service will help your company:
- Increase server availability and performance
- Isolate storage issues before conducting a costly data backup

- Determine which files to data backup.
Statistical Data Backup Summary
Statistical Data Backup helps your company estimate the amount of storage space it will use in YottaVault. Statistical data backup sets are created and run just like normal data backups, but information is not saved or sent to the YottaVault offsite data center(s). They allow accurate information to be gained about the amount of data that needs to be stored.
Statistical data backup sets would be configured and scheduled, through the YottaClient, for all data you expect to store in YottaVault. You may choose to calculate the size of their source files and/or to calculate the amount of data to be transferred (after delta processing, compression and encryption functions).
Depending on the options chosen, the Statistical Summary shows either just statistics on the source data (before delta processing or compression) or the amount of data that would have been transmitted (after delta processing and compression) if the data backup was being run in non-statistical mode. Both figures will help you anticipate your storage needs.
The Statistical Summary is also useful for planning the optimum schedule for data backups, since it can show how much data needs to be processed and transmitted at any given time. It may also help determine the optimum number of generations, since it will reflect the degree of change in any given data backup set.
